This past March, Vancouver City Savings Credit Union (523,000 members, $21 billion in assets) and Desjardins Group (seven million members, $258 billion in assets) were recognized as two of Canada’s Top Family-Friendly Employers for 2018.
This special designation recognizes employers across the country that offer progressive and forward-thinking programs to help employees balance work and family commitments. The competition was organized by the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project. In its 17th consecutive year, it is one of the project’s longest-running competitions. The Toronto-based publisher Mediacorp Canada manages the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project.
The Top 100 Employers competition looks at a range of employment practices and policies, including maternity, parental and compassionate leave and daycare assistance at businesses across the country. Vancity was singled out for its flexible working arrangements and care-time policy that can be used for personal illness, severe illness of an immediate family member, emergency childcare or eldercare arrangements.
“Family-friendly benefits are important to all working Canadians,” says Richard Yerema, managing
editor of Canada’s Top 100 Employers project. “Employees’ needs change over time, beginning with maternity and parental leave top-up and daycare assistance, then moving on to flexible and alternative working arrangements to help with childcare and caring for older family members. The employers selected for this year’s list offer support for employees at every stage of life.” ◊
