The Canadian Cooperative Association (CCA) and the Conseil canadien de la coopération et de la mutualité (CCCM) have voted to create a single bilingual organization to represent co-ops, credit unions and mutual insurance companies in Canada.
Scheduled to launch in early 2014, the new organization is tentatively named Cooperatives and Mutuals Canada. It will take over the domestic mandates of both the CCA and the CCCM, while the CCA will be responsible for international cooperative development activities.
The new organization aims to strengthen the Canadian cooperative movement and speak for co-ops, credit unions and mutuals with one voice, in both official languages. ◊
