Many Ontario credit unions have joined forces to launch their first province-wide TV and online ad campaign designed to increase awareness about what the system offers. The new group, Credit Unions of Ontario, was formed to build a campaign about cooperative banking. It encourages Ontarians to consider credit unions as an economically viable and socially meaningful alternative to banks. The campaign seeks to educate about the many benefits of this alternative form of banking.
“Credit unions have always helped our members achieve financial freedom by putting members’ best interests front and centre,” says Stephen Bolton, president and CEO of the $3-billion Libro Credit Union. “We pride ourselves in giving back to the communities we serve. It’s at the core of what we do – banking with a higher purpose.”
The credit unions have committed $12.5 million to fund the campaign over the next five years, subject to a review after two years. The initiative is being project managed by Central 1 Credit Union’s Marketing & Creative Services, which brought consumers the Credit Unions of BC and ding free® cooperative marketing campaigns. ◊
