Earlier this year, the Filene Research Institute, a Madison, Wis.-based credit union and consumer-finance think tank, released a report titled The Credit Union of the Twenty-First Century.
Comprehensively researched, the report looks at a myriad of factors affecting credit unions in America, where nearly one-third of the population are members. The report looks specifically at the United States Federal Credit Union Act and aligns it with 21st-century norms. Holly Fearing, Filene’s marketing and communications director, says that many of the trends and statistics are applicable to Canada, with some small but significant differences. ◊
